Autumn Bishop hit two doubles against Winthrop, pushing her program-record total to 23 for the season.
Liberty won its 12th game in a row, topping Winthrop, 4-1, during game one of a doubleheader, Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
With the win, Liberty (42-12, 16-3) has tied a program single-season record with 16 conference victories, matching the team's total from 2016 and 2017. The Lady Flames extended their program-record home winning streak to 16 games, dating back to March 10. Winthrop falls to 17-28 on the season, including 7-12 in Big South play.
Julia DiMartino (24-7) picked up her 63rd career win, moving past Katie Phillips (1996-99) into first place all-time in program history. DiMartino's 24 wins are a single-season program record. Today, she gave up one run on seven hits, striking out five.
Kiley Majette (10-15) drew the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out two in four innings pitched. Sabrina Shroades pitched the final two innings, with two hits and one strikeout.
Autumn Bishop batted 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, breaking a tie with Shannon Tanski, as Bishop's 23 doubles have set a new program single-season record. Amber Bishop went 2-for-3 with her team-leading 11th homer of the year and two RBI. Madison Via hit 2-for-3 with one RBI.
For Winthrop, Ashley Westbrooks went 2-for-4, while Morgan Lowers batted 2-for-3 with a homer and the Eagles' only run and RBI of the game.
Winthrop got on the board first, courtesy of Lowers' two-out homer in the top of the second.
Liberty quickly responded in the home half of the second, as Via hit a game-tying single with runners on second and third and nobody out. A Taylor Hoffman bunt single loaded the bases. However, Majette got Alexia Taylor to ground into a 5-2-3 double play, and Jasmeen Click made the third out.
The Lady Flames went ahead with a third-inning tally. Autumn Bishop doubled inside the first-base bag to lead off, and Amber Bishop's bunt single put runners on the corners. After one out, Robertson came through with a go-ahead single to left, making it 2-1. Majette limited the damage, getting a strikeout and a flyout.
The Eagles threatened to tie the game in the fifth, starting out with an infield single by A.G. Gardner. A sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position, and Westbrooks singled to left. DiMartino preserved the lead by striking out the next two batters.
The hosts tacked on a pair of fifth-inning insurance runs, as Autumn Bishop led off with a double and Amber Bishop followed by launching a two-run shot to left center, boosting the lead to 4-1. Shroades then came on in relief of Majette, giving up two hits but keeping the score 4-1.
DiMartino allowed a two-out single in the sixth, but that was all Winthrop managed the rest of the way and the Lady Flames sealed the victory.
