Quick Hits
• This past weekend, Liberty became the first team to win a three-game Big South series from High Point, taking its series with the Panthers, 2-1.
• Liberty and Wake Forest will meet for the second time this season on Wednesday. The Flames defeated the Deacons, 8-4, at Liberty Baseball Stadium on April 4. It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2005.
• The Flames have had a successful April, posting a 9-3 overall mark and a 7-2 conference record during the month.
• Liberty finishes a five-game road swing on Wednesday. Liberty enters the week with a 9-10 mark on the road.
• The Flames are in their second season under Head Coach Scott Jackson. He has led Liberty to a 56-37 record during his two seasons.

An "A" for April
The Flames have had a successful April, posting a 9-3 overall mark and a 7-2 conference record during the month. Eight of the 12 contests have been on the road.   

During the month, the Flames won a three-game series at Campbell for the first time since the Camels rejoined the Big South in 2011, 2-1, April 6-8. Liberty also became the first team to win a Big South Conference series from High Point, taking the series between the two teams, 2-1, this past weekend.

Tre Todd begins the week as the national leader in bases on balls with 43, while teammate D.J. Artis is third with 41. Todd has drawn 1.18 bases on balls per game which also tops the nation. Artis, who led the nation in walks last season, is second with 1.08 bases on balls per game.

The Big South leader in on base percentage, Todd enters the week fourth nationally with a .533 OBP.  In addition, the Deptford, N.J. native leads the conference in slugging percentage. He also is among the Big South leaders in batting average (second), runs scored (third), RBI (first), triples (tied second), home runs (tied third) and total bases (second).

Meanwhile, D.J. Artis leads the Big South with 47 runs scored and is ninth nationally with 1.24 runs scored per game.  
Artis is also among the conference leaders in on base percentage (third), doubles (tied second), triples (tied second) and stolen bases (second).

Price Paces Big South
Sophomore right-hander Garret Price enters the week as the Big South leader in ERA and tied with teammate Zach Clinton for wins. The right-hander tops the conference with a 2.00 ERA and six wins.  He also is second in opponent batting average, tied for third in strikeouts and is fifth in saves.

After making 14 relief appearances, Price became Liberty's Friday starter on April 6 at Campbell and carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of a 9-1 victory. In three starts, the right-hander has allowed two runs over 20 innings, a 0.90 ERA.

On the season, Price has posted a 6-2 record in 17 appearances. He has struck out 63 and walked 16.

Around the Diamond

  • Getting the call behind the plate, C Tre Todd collected a career-high six RBI and four runs scored, while tying a career-high with four hits, Friday night at High Point. The Liberty catcher belted his ninth home run of the year in the Liberty victory.
  • 1B Dylan Allen enters the week eighth in the Big South with a .439 on base percentage. He posted his sixth multi-RBI game of the year at Virginia, last Wednesday.
  • 3B Tyler Galazin has posted four three-hit games in his last seven games. The junior has hit .483 over the span. Galazin collected three hits in Liberty's 8-3 win over High Point, Sunday, including his third home run of the season and a double. The third baseman drove in a career-high four runs and scored twice in the contest.
  • LF This past week, Jonathan Embry batted .500 and hit his fourth home run of the season.
  • CF D.J. Artis has reached base safely in every game this season. He leads the Flames with 12 doubles.
  • DH Logan Mathieu has hit .317 since taking over the designated hitter duties in a 4-3 win at Virginia Tech on March 27. In addition, he has driven in a team-high 17 runs during the span of 16 games.
  • RP Relief pitcher Jackson Bertsch entered Sunday's contest at High Point with two on and two out in the third inning and went on to hold the Panthers in check over the final 6 1/3 innings to run his record to 3-2 on the year. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits during his relief stint. He struck out six and walked two.
