No. 2 Lady Flames Oust No. 7 Bulldogs, 4-0, in Big South Championship Quarterfinals

No. 2 seed Liberty earned a dominant 4-0 decision over No. 7 UNC Asheville in a 2018 Big South Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinal match on Thursday afternoon at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

The Lady Flames' seventh straight victory brings their record to 17-8 overall. Liberty has now reached the semifinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship in six straight seasons.  Asheville's season ends at 9-11.

"We had amazing energy today to start off the tournament," stated Liberty junior Anna Dollar. "There was a lot of wind, but we pulled through strong. This match gave us a lot of confidence going into the next match tomorrow."

Liberty will meet the winner of No. 3 seed Campbell and No. 6 seed Radford at 2 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. The Camels and Highlanders will play on Thursday evening to determine who will face the Lady Flames.

The Lady Flames won on courts two and three in securing the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage in the match and then took the No. 1, No. 6 and No. 4 singles matches, all in straight sets, for the 4-0 triumph. Of the 11 completed sets in the match, all 11 went to Liberty.

Junior Rebekah Anderson and Grace Hashiguchi, who were honored on the Big South All-Conference Second Team Doubles listing, never trailed in their match with the Bulldogs' on the way to a 6-1 triumph on court three. The Liberty duo is now 15-2, this spring.

Meanwhile, the Lady Flames' pairing of Maria Medina and Lara Soares (No. 2 doubles) also led throughout their bout with Asheville's Christin Louw and Emily Sidor. Medina and Soars, who were recognized on the Big South All-Conference First Team Doubles listing two days ago, prevailed, 6-2, to improve to 16-5 as a unit in 2018.

The match on court one between Evangeline Crist/Anna Dollar (Liberty) and Hannah Francisco/Kylee Shipley (Asheville) went unfinished, with Liberty leading, 5-2, when Medina and Soares clinched the doubles session.

In singles, the Lady Flames won the first set on all six courts. Liberty's Ashley Bongart (No. 1 singles) became the first Lady Flame to close out her match. After losing the first game to Shipley, Bongart won the next 12 games and the match, 6-1, 6-0. Bongart's 11th triumph at the No. 1 position made it 2-0 Liberty.

The Lady Flames' Dollar improved to 7-0 in the No. 6 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph versus her counterpart, Amalie Davidsen. Liberty freshman Polina Miroshnichenko officially commenced the match with her win in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) against Louw on court four, bringing the final score to 4-0.

Liberty will await the Campbell/Radford winner. The Lady Flames bested both teams in the regular season.
