Thanks to standout performances at the Gamecock Invitational, Liberty senior Carson Waters was named Big South Men's Field Athlete of the Week and senior Kimone Green was tabbed Big South Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Waters has now won two Big South weekly honors in 2018 and six for his career, while Green becomes the 14th different Flame to capture a Big South track & field weekly award this year.
A native of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., Waters led a 1-2-3 Liberty sweep in the Gamecock Invitational men's pole vault competition. He cleared 16-4.75 to take first place, followed by teammates Reilly Stroot and Ryan McCann.
Waters has won two of his three pole vault competitions during the 2018 outdoor season, also including the FSU Relays. He currently ranks No. 1 in the Big South, No. 22 in the East Region and No. 40 nationally for the men's pole vault with a season-best 16-10.75 clearance.
Green, who hails from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, was the Gamecock Invitational women's 400 hurdles champion with a season-best and Big South-leading time of 1:00.18. The first-year Lady Flame now ranks No. 2 in program history and No. 10 all-time in the Big South Conference for the women's 400 hurdles.
Waters is among a small group of Liberty athletes scheduled to compete at the WildCat Invitational, Saturday in Lynchburg. The one-day meet will begin with field events at 9 a.m. and running events at 10 a.m. at Randolph College's WildCat Stadium.
