Lady Flames and Runnin' Bulldogs Set for BSC Lacrosse Game, Wednesday

Liberty (8-3, 1-0 BSC) will host Gardner-Webb (2-9, 0-1 BSC) on Wednesday afternoon.

Liberty women's lacrosse will play its second Big South game of 2018, hosting Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. First draw from the Liberty Lacrosse Field will take place at 4 p.m.

The Lady Flames are 8-3 overall on the season and 1-0 in the Big South following last Saturday's 21-5 conference-opening win over Presbyterian.

The Runnin' Bulldogs enter Wednesday's contest with a 2-9 mark and 0-1 record in the Big South. They dropped their conference opener to Campbell, 21-10, on Saturday afternoon.

Series History
Liberty is 4-0 all-time against Gardner-Webb, including a 21-7 victory last year in Boiling Springs, N.C. In that contest, Kayla Foster set the Liberty women's lacrosse single-game record for assists (8) and points (11). Courtney Brown scored four times in that game, while Brittany Tickle tallied her first two career goals.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • Liberty has several weapons at its disposal on the offensive end, with seven players having scored 10 or more goals on the year. Brianna McCaffrey leads the way with 26 goals, while Michaela Rich is tied with McCaffrey and Foster for the team lead in points (32) and has 22 goals. Foster paces the squad with 18 assists (No. 39 in nation).
  • For a third straight week, the Lady Flames are first in the nation in caused turnovers per game (14.09). They averaged 16.50 caused turnovers in two games last week, including a season-best 19 caused turnovers against Presbyterian (Saturday). McCaffrey is No. 3 individually in caused turnovers per game (2.91) and has averaged 4.25 over her last four games.
  • Liberty is No. 3 in the nation in shots per game (35.64), No. 4 in ground balls per game (24.27), No. 14 in scoring defense (9.36), No. 14 in shots on goal per game (25.00), No. 17 in winning percentage (.727), No. 20 in save percentage (.498) and No. 24 in scoring margin (3.64).
  • Lady Flames goalkeepers Aubrie Tarris (5-2) and Katherine Widrick (3-1) are first in the Big South in save percentage (.498). Each player has played exactly 330:00 in goal, with Tarris playing the first half of every game and Widrick taking over for the second half.
  • Junior attacker Kayla Foster notched her 80th career assist on Saturday versus Presbyterian. Foster's is the program's all-time leader in assists (80), points per game (3.08),  and assists per game (1.67) and ranks fifth in career points (148).


Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by senior attacker Amanda Steinmuller, who paces the team in goals (29), assists (15) and points (44). Freshman midfielder Talen Francis is second on the team with 25 goals, while senior defender Monique Martin is No. 17 in the country in ground balls per game (3.50).

Sophomore Katie Sylvester (2-8, 14.84 GAA), who is No. 9 in the country in saves per game (10.90) and No. 11 in saves (109), will likely handle the goalkeeping duties for head coach Jillian Krick's squad. Krick is a former Liberty player who competed for the Lady Flames from 2011-14.
