Lady Flames and Aztecs Set for Friday Evening Matchup in San Diego

Liberty women's lacrosse will close out its trip to the West Coast with a game at San Diego State on Friday. The contest is slated for a 10 p.m. (EST) start (7 p.m. Pacific time) at the Aztec Lacrosse Field.

The Lady Flames are off to their best start in school history with a 6-2 record, including recent wins over Butler (17-8 on March 13) and Arizona State (15-5 on Tuesday). San Diego State is 7-3 through its first 10 games and has won five of its last six bouts.  

Series History
Liberty and SDSU will be meeting for the second time ever. They played on March 13, 2015, a game won by the Aztecs, 18-12, in San Diego. Current seniors Michaela Rich, Lindsey McNamara and Abby Britton appeared in that contest as freshmen.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • Liberty is No. 1 in the country in caused turnovers per game at 13.50. The Lady Flames generated 16 caused turnovers in their win at Arizona State on Tuesday night.
  • Junior attacker Brianna McCaffrey currently stands at No. 12 in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.38). She generated four caused turnovers at ASU, Tuesday. The junior is also 37th in the country in ground balls per game (3.00).
  • With four more assists on Tuesday, the Lady Flames' Kayla Foster now has a team-best 15 on the season, good for 31st in the nation.
  • The Lady Flames have the best non-conference record (6-2) of any Big South team this season. High Point, the No. 25 team in the country, is 5-2, followed by Winthrop (5-3), Longwood (4-5), Radford (3-4), Campbell (3-6), Gardner-Webb (2-7), and Presbyterian (2-7). The conference portion of the 2018 schedule starts on March 31.
  • Liberty's goalkeepers, Aubrie Tarris and Katherine Widrick, are No. 20 in the nation in save percentage (.490). The Lady Flames are first in the Big South in that category and first in scoring defense (10.00).
  • Liberty has dominated its opponents, 57-32, after halftime in the first eight games of the season. The Lady Flames have been outscored, 48-44, in the opening half.
  • With three more goals against ASU, sophomore attacker Jenna Joyal is now second on the squad with 15 goals in 2018. The Connecticut native scored nine goals as a freshman in 2017.


Scouting San Diego State
The Aztecs' offense, which features eight players who have scored 10 or more goals this year, is sixth in the country in scoring offense (15.80) and ninth in scoring margin (4.90). Jill Haight leads the attack with 23 goals, four assists and 27 points.

Goalkeeper Katy Sharretts (7-3, 12.30 GAA) is No. 13 the country with 84 saves for head coach Kylee White's squad.
