Following his third under-par finish of the 2017-18 season, Liberty's Mickey DeMorat has been named this week's Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.
The senior finished in 13th place at The Hayt earlier this week. He carded a 2-under par 214 (73-67-74) at the Sawgrass Country Club (par 72, 6,966 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The weekly honor is his second Big South Men's Golfer of the Week selection of the season and the fourth of his career. DeMorat also received the same weekly honor following a runner-up finish during the fall at the First American Mortgage Intercollegiate (Oct. 8-9).
The 13th-place showing was his best finish of the spring and his third top-20 finish of the season. In three seasons at Liberty, the native of Merritt Island, Fla., has posted 17 top-20 finishes.
DeMorat posted a 5-under par 67 during the second round of the event, his third sub-70 round of the spring and sixth of the season.
The senior finished the event with 35 pars and 11 birdies, ranking second on Liberty's roster during the two-day event in both statistical categories. He also tied for the lead amongst the players in the 90-man field as he played the par-5 holes at 8-under par (4.33 scoring average)
The senior helped the Flames finish the event in third place with a 3-under par 861 (291-281-289), Liberty's best team score of the season relative to par.
The Flames finished the North Florida-hosted event ahead of four top-50 ranked teams. No. 43 Purdue finished in sixth place (8-over par 872), No. 23 North Florida placed seventh (9-over par 873), No. 39 Louisville finished tied for eighth place (12-over par 876) and No. 49 Tennessee completed the event in 10th place (16-over par 880).
DeMorat and the Flames return to the golf course next Monday and Tuesday when No. 56 Liberty travels to Eugene, Ore., to participate in the 2018 Duck Invitational.
