Julia DiMartino picked up her program-record sixth career Big South Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday.
After earning three victories in Liberty's conference-opening series sweep of Campbell over the weekend, junior Julia DiMartino has been named Big South Pitcher of the Week.
This is DiMartino's second Pitcher of the Week honor (Feb. 12) of the season. She has set a new program record with six career Pitcher of the Week awards. The 2017 Big South Pitcher of the Year, DiMartino is also the first Liberty player to be named Big South Pitcher of the Week as a freshman, sophomore and junior.
Hailing from Brockport, N.Y., DiMartino posted a 3-0 record, 0.66 ERA, one shutout, 16 strikeouts against just one walk, and a .111 opponents' batting average against Campbell. It was the third time in her career that DiMartino recorded all three wins in a Big South series.
During her lone start of the weekend, DiMartino tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight while walking none on Saturday. She did not allow a batter past second in the game. During the second game of the doubleheader, she came on in relief of Elizabeth Engler in the top of the sixth with Liberty trailing, 3-2. She retired all five batters she faced, striking out two, as Liberty walked off with the 4-3 win. On Sunday, she entered the game with Liberty leading, 5-2, in the fourth inning. She tossed four innings, yielding one run on two hits while striking out six batters.
DiMartino currently holds a 13-4 record and a 2.33 ERA, leading the Big South in wins (13), strikeouts (100), shutouts (5), saves (3), appearances (21) and opponents' batting average (.185).
The Lady Flames (20-7, 3-0 Big South) hit the road for a six-game Spring Break trip, beginning tomorrow at 3 p.m. at North Carolina A&T. Liberty will also play a doubleheader at Kennesaw State, Wednesday at 4 p.m., and will close the weekend with a Saturday-Sunday series at Presbyterian.
