• Liberty will open Big South Conference play for the first time on the road in three years, Friday. The Flames will face the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in a three-game series at John Henry Moss Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C., Friday-Sunday.
• Liberty leads Gardner-Webb, 19-6, in the all-time series. 
• The Flames are 44-33 all-time and are 20-25 on the road in Big South opening series.
• Liberty takes to the road looking for its first road victory of 2018. 12 of the Flames' next 16 games are on the road.
• Liberty was picked to finish second in the 2018 Big South Preseason Poll by the league's head coaches. In addition, Liberty 
outfielder D.J. Artis was tabbed the 2018 Big South Preseason Player of the Year.
• The Flames are in their second season under Head Coach Scott Jackson. He has led Liberty to a 40-28 record during his two seasons. 

Big South Openers
• For the first time in three years, the Flames will open Big South Conference play on the road. Last season, Liberty began conference play by taking a three-games series with High Point at Liberty Baseball Stadium, two games to one.
• With the inclusion of this season,  the Flames have started conference play on the road 17 of their 28 years as a member of the Big South Conference,. 
• Liberty is 44-33 all-time and 20-25 on the road in Big South opening series.
• The Flames have never begun conference play against Gardner-Webb since the Bulldogs joined the Big South in 2009.
• All 10 of the Big South teams are slated to start Big South play this weekend.

Todd Among National Leaders
Tre Todd enters the weekend among the national leaders in walks, walks per game and on base percentage. The junior is second nationally in walks per game, averaging 1.38 walks  per contest and is third in the country with 22 walks. Todd is also among the national leaders with a .597 on base percentage. He starts the weekend ranked fifth in the category.

In addition, the Deptford, N.J. native has had quite a start to his first season in a Flames uniform. Besides the categories mentioned above, Todd leads Liberty in batting average (.391), RBI (19), home runs (3) and slugging percentage (.761). D.J. Artis and Todd are the only Liberty players to reach base in every game this season.

Artis Moves Up Liberty Career Steals List
With three stolen bases in Liberty 5-4 win over Canisius on Sunday, outfielder D.J. Artis moved into a tied for sixth on the program's career stolen base list with 56. The junior, who has 10 on the year, is currently tied with former Flame Steve Younts, who stole 56 bases from 1980-83.  Artis is one away from moving into fifth all-time with Ian Parmley who stole 57 bases from 2011-12. Joey Monahan (2000-02) is the program's all-time leader with 85.

In addition, Artis enters the weekend eighth in the country with his 10 base thefts.  The outfielder began 2018 with 46 career stolen bases, having  stole 23 bases a piece in 2016 and 2017.

Artis already holds the Flames' program record for career walks with 130.

Around the Diamond

  • 1B Dylan Allen enters the weekend second on the Flames with 15 RBI and 15 runs scored. 
  • 2B Trey McDyre had two hits and scored a run in Liberty's 5-4 win over Canisius, Sunday. 
  • 3B Tyler Galazin singled with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Flames a 5-4 victory over Canisius, Sunday. 
  • SS Cam Locklear has hit safely in each of his last nine games, tying the longest hit streak in his career.  In addition, the sophomore has not made an error in 15 starts this season.
  • LF Tre Todd posted his first three-hit game at Liberty, last Friday against Canisius. He has reached base safely in every game, this season.
  • CF D.J. Artis leads Liberty with 17 runs scored. He has reached base safely  in every game this season.
  • DH Andrew Yacyk hit .438 last week and has recorded at least one hit in each of his last six games.
