The Liberty Flames raced out to an 8-0 advantage through three innings and never looked back, downing the Youngstown State Penguins, 12-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Liberty Baseball Stadium.

Shortstop Cam Locklear collected three hits and two RBI and scored a run in the victory for the Flames. Third baseman Tyler Galazin went 2-for-2 with a walk and scored three times.

Liberty moves to 8-5 on the year and 8-1 at Liberty Baseball in 2018. Youngstown State falls to 1-10.

Just like Tuesday's 16-0 win over the Penguins, the Flames plated two runs in the first inning. Center fielder D.J. Artis was hit by a pitch leading off the home half of the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After moving to third on a Youngstown State fielding error on a ground ball by catcher Jonathan Embry, Artis scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 edge. First baseman Dylan Allen followed with a run-scoring single for a 2-0 advantage.

In the second, Galazin lined a double into the left-center field gap to open the Liberty half of the inning and moved over to third base on a ground out by Locklear. Galazin then came home on a wild pitch, extending the Flames' lead to 3-0.

Liberty took a commanding advantage with five runs on five hits in the third. Allen walked to begin the bottom of the third and advanced to second on a balk. Designated hitter Andrew Yacyk followed with a RBI single for the first Flames run of the frame.

After a single by right fielder Brandon Rohrer moved Yacyk into scoring position, Galazin dropped a single into left, plating Yacyk for a 5-0 lead. Locklear followed by lining a RBI single into center field, making five consecutive Flames to reach base and upping the Liberty ledger to 6-0. Second baseman Ben Highfill then cashed in Galazin with a ground out, before left fielder Tre Todd tripled with two outs to cap the scoring outburst and give Head Coach Scott Jackson's team an 8-0 lead.

Youngstown State got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Due to a miscommunication in the Liberty outfield, first baseman Andrew Kendrick reached on a fly ball that dropped in for a double with one out. Two batters later, third baseman Web Charles doubled to score Kendrick.

In the bottom of the inning, Liberty tacked on four more runs to its advantage. A double by Rohrer and a single by Locklear scored the first two runs of the inning for the Flames. Highfill and Todd then lifted sacrifice flies to plate runs for a 12-1 lead.

The Penguins pushed across a run in the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, left fielder Nick Massey singled to plate a run for what proved to be the final of 12-2.

Liberty reliever Zack Brockman records his first win of his college career with 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Ben Good. Brockman allowed two runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked two.

Flames relievers Garret Price, Logan Barker and Vinnie Tarantola followed and combined to pitch a scoreless final 4 2/3 innings.

Starter Chad Coles falls to 0-1 on the year for Youngstown State. The right-hander gave up six runs on four hits over the first two innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Liberty collected 12 hits in the contest. Youngstown State managed six hits and committed the only two errors of the game.
