Liberty to Meet Richmond in Non-Conference Lacrosse Game, Saturday

The Lady Flames lacrosse team, off to its best five-game start in program history (4-1), is set to do battle with the Richmond Spiders (2-1) on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's matinee is slated for 1 p.m. at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va.

Liberty will hope to build on its start, as it looks to improve to 5-1 for the first time in school history. The Lady Flames enter Saturday's contest on the heels of a 14-12 comeback triumph at Old Dominion, Wednesday.

Richmond was last in action on Feb. 21, a 15-7 loss at No. 16 Virginia. The Spiders defeated the Big South's Campbell Camels (Feb. 10) and American (Feb. 17) earlier in the season. 

Series History
The Lady Flames will be looking to rewrite history on Saturday against the Spiders. Liberty is 0-4 all-time versus their counterparts. In Liberty's 2017 home opener, Richmond defeated the Lady Flames, 18-7. In that match, Brianna McCaffrey led Liberty with three goals.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • Liberty's three-game winning streak is currently tied for the fifth-longest streak in the nation.
  • The Lady Flames (4-1) continue to lead the overall Big South standings. High Point (2-2) and Radford (1-1) are the next closest teams.
  • All four of Liberty's wins this season have come against teams they beat for the first time in program history: Mercer (14-7 on Feb. 10), ECU (15-4 on Feb. 21), Robert Morris (14-9 last Sunday) and Old Dominion (14-12 on Wednesday).
  • Liberty is fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (13.40). The Lady Flames are also 21st in ground balls with 21.2 per game.
  • The Lady Flames continue leading the Big South in assists per game (6.40) and are No. 19 in the country in helpers. Junior Kayla Foster and sophomore Carly White are No. 27 and No. 39 in the nation in assists, with eight and seven, respectively.
  • Goalkeepers Aubrie Tarris and Katherine Widrick, who have split time right down the middle (150:00 apiece) in goal, have combined for a .471 save percentage, good for 25th in the country.
  • The Lady Flames have shown themselves to be a second half team in 2018. While they've been outscored, 33-27, in the first, half, they hold a 34-22 over their opponents in the second half.
  • Liberty is 0-1 all-time on March 3. The first game in Liberty women's lacrosse program history was contested on March 3, 2010 at Longwood. The Lancers defeated the Lady Flames on that day. 

Scouting Richmond
The Spiders' senior attacker/midfielder Kim Egizi is sixth in the nation in points per game (6.00) and eighth in goals per game (4.33). She has 13 goals, five assists and 18 points in three matches while recording 7.33 shots per game (No. 3 in country). Richmond is led by sixth-year head coach Allison Kwolek, who has guided the Spiders to the Atlantic 10 title game each of the last four seasons.

Goalkeeper Megan Gianforte (2-1, 7.05 GAA, 26 SV) ranks second in the country in save percentage (.605) for a Richmond squad that is No. 9 in the nation in scoring defense (8.67). Midfielder Julie Ball stands at No. 12 in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.67).
