After posting career highs this past week against Campbell and Presbyterian, Liberty's Keegan McDowell has earned his first career Big South Freshman of the Week honor.
The freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio was lights out on offense last week averaging 16 points per game along with 3.5 rebounds and two assists. From Jan. 22-28, McDowell led all players in the Big South, shooting 61.1 percent (11-18). At home against Campbell, McDowell shot 5-8 from the field for a career-high 13 points.
After a strong performance versus the Camels, McDowell earned the start on the road at Presbyterian and the freshman did not disappoint. In his second career start, McDowell once again scored a career-high in points with 19 including a career-best three three-pointers. McDowell continued to post career marks against the Blue Hose with five rebounds, four made free throws and six made field goals.
McDowell and the Flames will return home this week to face Winthrop. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the Vines Center.
