Liberty Awarded United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

Not only has the Liberty women's soccer program succeeded on the field this year but also off the field as they were presented with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. The honor is given to programs across the country who post a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

"Our Liberty University women's soccer student-athletes strive to be their best on the field, in the community, and in the classroom," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "We are honored to receive the recognition for our players' efforts in the classroom and will continue to work to holistically develop them to the highest standards."

During the 2016-17 academic year, women's soccer finished with a 3.139 GPA. The Lady Flames had two players post a 4.0 GPA in Holly Van Noord and Caroline Boone. Liberty had 20 players that posted a 3.0 GPA or higher and the Lady Flames have continued to excel in the classroom this year as senior Sami Santos was named to the Big South All-Academic team.

The United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) Women's Team Academic Award was instituted in 1996. Liberty has earned the academic award six times.
