The Flames will begin the final stretch of their fall golf season when they participate in the 2017 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Baylor.

The two-day event gets underway on Monday at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas (par 71, 7,068 yards).

Five days later, Liberty will conclude its fall slate by participating in the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 28 and 29 at the Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.

The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate has been contested eight times before, from 2008 to 2016 (2015 event was cancelled due to weather issues). The last three events have utilized a unique scoring system, with each team playing six golfers and the top five counting toward a team score.

This year's event will return to a play-five, count-four format, but all five golfers from each team will play in the same grouping. The Flames participated in an event with the same format last year when they closed out their regular-season schedule at The Maxwell, hosted by Oklahoma.

Eight of the 13 teams in this year's Royal Oaks Intercollegiate field are currently ranked in the newly released Golfstat national rankings: Baylor (No. 7), Kent State (No. 14), Arkansas (No. 17), Pepperdine (No. 50), Liberty (No. 54), Iowa (No. 69), Charlotte (No. 72) and Houston (No. 74).

The event will mark a return to the golf course for the Flames following a two-week lay off. Liberty finished the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate in fifth place out of 12 teams, playing their final round on Oct. 10.

The Flames carded a 17-over par 881 (302-288-291) at the Middle Tennessee hosted event. Senior Mickey DeMorat paced the Flames with 6-under par 210 (73-69-68), finishing the event in second place and one shot off the overall lead.

DeMorat leads the Flames through three events this season. The native of Merritt Island, Fla., holds a 70.56 season stroke average, which ranks third best in the conference. Last week's Big South Golfer of the Week has played five out of nine rounds at par or better this fall and has finished top five in two out of three events.

A pair of younger players rank second and third on Liberty's season stroke average rankings in freshman Alexandre Fuchs (73.00) and sophomore Ervin Chang (73.33).

Both have been honored for their strong fall by the Big South. Fuchs was named the Big South Freshman of the Week following a sixth-place finish with a 1-over par 217 (71-74-72) as an individual at the Patriot Intercollegiate, Sept. 25-26.

Chang was tabbed the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week after a 2-under par 214 (71-71-72) at the Shoal Creek Invitational, Sept. 25-26, good enough for a second-place showing.

Play gets underway on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. (CST) with a shotgun start to begin 36 holes of continuous play. Groups will sent off the tee at No. 1 (par 4, 436 yards) and No. 10 (par 4, 434 yards) starting at 8:15 a.m. for Tuesday's final round of play.
