Liberty Wins Two Conference Matches Last Week Last week, Liberty upped its Big South record to 3-1 with victories over Longwood and UNC Asheville.
Tuesday, Rigo Rojas' first goal of the season during the 73rd minute proved to be the difference in the Flames' 2-1 victory over Longwood at Osborne Stadium. Kevin Mendoza also scored for the Flames in the victory, upping his season's total to five.
Saturday, Liberty scored four goals in the first half, en route to a 4-0 victory at UNC Asheville. Tresor Mbuyu scored twice and assisted on a goal, while Mendoza and Isidoro Garcia also scored for the Flames in the contest. The shutout was Liberty's fifth of the year.
Offensive Numbers Contiue to Standout Entering the week, Liberty has outscored its opponents, 25-9. The Flames have recorded five shutouts to lead the Big South.
Currently, the Flames rank 11th nationally in both total goals scored and in scoring offense with a 2.27 goals per game average.
Scoring First The Flames have scored first in eight of their 11 contests this season. Liberty holds a 6-1-1 record in those games.
In addition, the Flames are 5-0 when leading at half and 2-1-1 when they are tied.
Mbuyu Among National Leaders Fresh off his third two-goal game of 2017 on Saturday, Tresor Mbuyu begins the weekend tied for third in the country with 2.00 points per game average and sixth in the nation with nine goals.
In addition, Mbuyu ranks fifth in the country with 22 total points. He also is tied for third in the Big South Conference with four assists.
The 2017 Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year has accumulated a point in eight of Liberty's 11 games this season.
