Freshman Grace Hashiguchi's three-set victory on Sunday, the final day of the Wake Forest Invitational, wrapped up a successful weekend of play for the Liberty women's tennis team at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
The three Liberty players to participate in this weekend's invite compiled five singles wins and one doubles triumph.
"I am very proud of our girls for their energy and performance this weekend," stated Lady Flames assistant coach Giancarlo Lemmi. "We set out with a goal to stay mentally engaged throughout the whole match, and we were able to accomplish that this weekend. We were disciplined with our game plan, which allowed us to pull out some tough wins."
Hashiguchi won her second match of the weekend and second three-setter in as many days on Sunday to capture the consolation title of the E1 singles draw. The Rockville, Md., native defeated Elon's Montana Moore, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (10-7).
Lady Flames junior Maria Medina squared off with Wake Forest's Chandler Carter in the A2 singles final. Medina fell to Carter, 6-4, 6-1, settling for second place. The Cumana, Venezuela, native is 5-1 in singles competition, so far this fall.
Freshman Nasha Ghajar dropped her Sunday match to Anna Jones in two sets (6-0, 6-2).
Liberty will return to competition, beginning Friday at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship. The five-day regional, hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., will run through Oct. 17.
