Liberty to Host Longwood for Big South Match, Tuesday

Off to a 1-1 start in Big South play, the Liberty Flames men's socer team will host the Longwood Lancers at Osborne Stadium on Tuesday. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. 
 
Notables
• Last week, the Flames opened their Big South schedule. Liberty captured a 1-0 overtime victory over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday,  before falling 2-1 at Campbell on Friday.
 
•Liberty has outscored its opponents 19-8. The Flames enter tomorrow night's contest 16th nationally in scoring offense with a 2.11 goals per game average.
 
• Liberty leads the Big South with a 0.86 goals-against average. The Flames ranked 38th nationally in the category.
 
•Tresor Mbuyu enters the week ninth in the country with 1.89 points per game average and 10th in the nation with seven goals.
 
•James Knoebel leads the Big South in save percentage (.805) and goals-against average (0.91). He ranks 35th nationally in save percentage.
 
Flames Split First Two Conference Games
Liberty split the first two games of its Big South Conference schedule, last week.
 
Tuesday, the Flames began their Big South schedule with a 1-0 overtime win over Gardner-Webb, Tuesday at Osborne Stadium. Tresor Mbuyu scored his seventh goal of the year at 98:50 of overtime to give Liberty win.  The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Flames, who held Gardner-Webb, the highest scoring offense in the nation at the time, to three shots during regulation.
 
Friday, a goal during the 80th minute propelled host Campbell past Liberty, 2-1. Flames forward Chase Hovious scored his first career goal in the contest in the first half.
 
Offensive Numbers Standout
Entering the week, Liberty has outscored its opponents, 19-8. The Flames have recorded four shutouts.
 
Currently, the Flames are 16th nationally in scoring offense with a 2.11  goals per game average. Liberty also is 22nd nationally in goals.
 
On the Mark
Liberty enters the week ninth in the nation in shots on goal. The Flames have averaged 7.22 shots on net per game during their first nine games of 2017.
 
Defending Home Field
The Flames have posted a 4-1 record at Osborne Stadium, so far this season. Liberty has outscored its opponents, 14-2, at home.
 
Hovious Nets First
Sophomore Chase Hovious scored his first career goal, Friday evening at Campbell. 
 
The forward has seen action in 15 games during his career and this season, he has made three starts.
