Game Day Central: St. Francis (Pa.)
Liberty will play host to 2016 FCS Playoff qualifier St. Francis (Pa.). Both teams are off to their best start in recent years, but both are coming off of their first loss of 2017.
"4 Downs" with the Red Flash 1. Both Liberty and Saint Francis (Pa.) are looking to bounce back from their first losses of 2017. The Flames lost 31-10 at No. 5/7 Jacksonville State last Saturday, while the Red Flash dropped a 16-14 home decision to Towson on Sept. 16. Saturday's game is the first of two home meetings with NEC foes for the Flames this season, as Duquesne will visit Williams Stadium on Nov. 4. 2. Saturday will mark Saint Francis' second visit to Williams Stadium, following a 68-10 loss on Sept. 29, 2007. The Red Flash played Liberty at City Stadium on Sept. 4, 2010 while Williams Stadium was being renovated. The 2010 meeting was the head coaching debut of Chris Villarrial at Saint Francis. He was a two-time All-Pro offensive lineman while playing for the Bears and Bills. 3. Liberty and Saint Francis have played a total of three NCAA FCS Playoff games in program history. The Flames defeated James Madison before losing to Villanova in 2014. Meanwhile, the Red Flash made their first-ever FCS Playoff appearance in 2016, falling to Villanova in the opening round. 4. Saint Francis is seeking its best four-game start (3-1) since 1986. The Red Flash defense, which has yielded only one touchdown this season, will try to slow Liberty's offense, which has tallied 19 TDs in 2017. Like the Flames, Saint Francis features a strong passing attack. Houston transfer QB Bear Fenimore was named NEC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11. Junior WR Kamron Lewis, a 2016 All-American and the 2016 NEC Offensive Player of the Year, has caught a TD pass in each of his last seven outings, dating back to last season.
