Liberty's Stephen Calvert and Corbin Jackson both played pivotal roles in Liberty's dramatic win over Indiana State on Saturday. For their efforts, the pair was honored earlier today by the Big South Conference.
Calvert was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Week, while Jackson was selected the Big South Special Teams Player of the Week.
The duo helped Liberty move to 3-0 for the first time since 2008 following a 42-41 win over the Sycamores in Williams Stadium.
The honor was the second weekly award Calvert has earned this year from the conference. He also received the same accolade after throwing for a school record 447 yards at Baylor.
Against Indiana State, Calvert threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, marking his fourth career 300-yard passing effort.
In three games this season, Calvert has already surpassed the 1,000-yard passing mark (1,107). The native of Plantation, Fla., threw his first interception of the year to start Liberty's first drive of the fourth quarter. He had completed 83-of-108 pass attempts on the season prior to the fourth-quarter interception.
If Liberty was eligible for NCAA rankings, Calvert would rank No. 2 in the country in passing yards per game (364.0), No. 2 in passing yards (1,107) and No. 2 in total offensive yards per game (370.0). He leads all FCS quarterbacks with 12 passing touchdowns.
Jackson was responsible for the game's most dramatic play, blocking a potential 23-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to seal Liberty's win. The blocked kick was the third blocked field goal by Liberty in the last four years to seal a Flames' victory.
Defensively, the Charlotte, N.C., native recorded seven tackles (three solo, four assisted) and two pass breakups. Two of his seven tackles in the game came on Indiana State's final drive, helping him record his third highest single-game tackle total.
Calvert and Jackson will look to keep Liberty's undefeated season alive when the Flames travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to face No. 5/7 Jacksonville State on Saturday.
