The Liberty Lady Flames women's tennis team wrapped up a successful weekend at the season-opening South Carolina Invitational with six more singles triumphs and a pair of doubles victories, Sunday at the Carolina Tennis Center.

With the six singles victories, Liberty finishes the three-day tournament with a 19-8 mark in singles. The two doubles wins brought the Lady Flames' record to 7-6 in doubles play.

"We continued to improve this weekend and finished with a few more solid performances today," said head coach Jeff Maren. "Overall, I am pleased with our fight and effort this weekend. We have some things to work on, but I am encouraged by our girls' willingness to grow."

Liberty began the morning with doubles competition at 9 a.m. The Lady Flames' duo of Anna Dollar and Polina Miroshnichenko bested Mercer's Christie Cesarini and Marie Mottet. Meanwhile, Evangeline Crist and Grace Hashiguchi took down the Marshall duo of Ana Marhuenda and Marija Bogicevic, 6-2.

Liberty players began singles competition at either 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. During the first session, Ashley Bongart collected her second win in a row, this time in dramatic fashion. The Liberty junior bounced back from a 6-3 set one loss to Middle Tennessee State's Marta Perris Herrero to win set two and force a third set. Bongart captured the third set 10-point tiebreaker to win the match, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).

Junior Anna Dollar improved to 3-0 in fall singles matches with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Marshall's Anna Smith.

During the 11:30 a.m. session, junior Maria Medina captured her third singles match of the tournament, defeating Van Eck of Winthrop in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Miroshnichenko topped Brooke Lashway of Marshall to move to 3-0 on the season in singles. Crist defeated Alya Mourad of Winthrop, 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Nasha Ghajar split the first two sets with Mercer's Cesarini before a lengthy battled ensued in the 10-point tiebreaker. Ghajar edged Cesarini, 21-19, in the marathon, to claim the match, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (21-19).

Liberty's next scheduled fall tournament is the Wake Forest Invitational, held from Oct. 6-8 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.
