Casey Goodwin scored 14 kills against Morgan State on Saturday.
Liberty hit a season-high .273 during a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15) win over Morgan State to end non-conference play, Saturday at UNCW's Trask Coliseum.
The Lady Flames (3-10) went 1-2 during this weekend's Courtyard by Marriott Tournament, while Morgan State (1-12) posted an 0-3 record.
Liberty's Anna Gragg was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts at the invitational.
For the match, Liberty outhit Morgan State, .273-.168. The Lady Flames also led, 8-7, in aces and 51-50 in digs. The Bears held an 8-5 edge in blocks.
Casey Goodwin scored a team-best 14 kills at a .417 pace for Liberty, while Gragg hit .423 with 13 kills. Victoria Baptista tied her season high with 12 kills. Amaya Williams dished out a career-high 43 assists, while Jenna Culhan and Margaret Latchford collected 11 digs each.
Morgan State's Cristen Coryatt sent down a match-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs. Kheanna Landrum recorded 12 kills, while Roi Wallace dished out 42 assists. Jasmin Hubbard collected a match-high 20 digs, while Keana Browne posted five blocks.
Liberty raced out to an 18-9 lead, as Payton Carter capped an early rally with a kill. The Lady Flames led, 21-14, before the Bears began their comeback attempt. Coryatt scored three kills during a 7-2 run that helped Morgan State narrow the gap to 23-21. However, Gragg scored kills on the Bears' next two serves and Liberty won, 25-22.
The Lady Flames outhit Morgan State, .243-.171, in the opening set. Coryatt sent down five first-set kills.
Set two featured 11 ties and two lead changes. MSU broke a 20-20 tie with a pair of kills. Baptista answered by scoring back-to-back kills to tie it at 22-all. The Bears scored the next two points, before Liberty fought off set point with a Baptista kill. Liberty's last attack went into the net, and Morgan State won, 25-23. The second session saw Liberty hit .256, compared to .235 for Morgan State. Baptista scored six set-two kills.
Baptista gave Liberty set-point tries when her kill made it 24-21. The Bears continued to battle, as Landrum sent down a kill, and a Browne-Mykaela Ross block narrowed the gap to 24-23. Amaya Williams then ended a long rally, scoring a kill to clinch the set, 25-23, for Liberty.
The Lady Flames outhit the Bears, .211-.147, in the third set. Gragg registered five kills, while three Morgan State players had four kills each.
Liberty put the match out of reach in set four, winning by double digits, 25-15. The Lady Flames served up four aces in the final session, while also outhitting the Bears, .476-.107.
Liberty opens conference play on Tuesday, taking on defending Big South tournament champion High Point at 7 p.m. in the Vines Center.
