Rachel McLeod is expected to contribute at both guard positions during her first year with the Lady Flames.

Unlike a season ago, when the entire Liberty women's basketball team remained unchanged from the previous campaign, four new faces dot the 2007-08 Lady Flames' roster. Throughout the preseason, will introduce each of the new additions to the squad, continuing today with freshman guard Rachel McLeod.

Scouting Report: McLeod comes to Liberty from Texas, the Lone Star State, but she is not the lone star in her athletic family. A number of her family members have attained high athletic credentials, highlighted by her grandfather, George L. McLeod, who played for the NBA's Baltimore Bullets. Due in part to her athletic genes and a lot of hard work, McLeod has developed into a heady, skilled player. She will be one of two Lady Flame freshmen learning from senior point guard Allyson Fasnacht this season and may also see some time at the two guard.

Credentials: McLeod was homeschooled, but gained experience by playing for the Homeschool Christian Youth Association (HCYA), under coach Terry Hester. As a senior, McLeod averaged 18.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 4.8 apg, earning NSCAA All-America third-team distinction. Led by McLeod, HCYA went 38-6 and reached the National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championship Final Four during her junior season. She was also rated the 12th-best junior in the state by, after posting 21.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 4.3 apg.

Coach Green on McLeod: "Rachel is very committed and dedicated, both as a person and as a player. On the court, she contributes not only through a great shooting touch and basketball skills, but also with great basketball IQ and understanding of the game. She has been well-coached at both the high school and AAU levels. Rachel has demonstrated the ability to score and a strong desire for the team to be successful. I foresee that she will have opportunities to earn significant playing time early in her career. Rachel will be a major contributor to the success of our team, not only this year, but into the future. It's great to have Rachel as part of our Liberty family."

The Real Rachel:
If someone would look at the songs on my iPod, I would be embarrassed for them to see I have … "What the World Needs Now is Love" by Dionne Warrick.

If I were on "American Idol," I would sing … "Laughed Until We Cried" by Jason Aldean.

If I could switch places with one person for a day, it would be … [Phoenix Suns guard] Steve Nash.

It is not good for you, but I still eat … chocolate chip cookie dough.

When I want to get away from basketball for a little while, I … sleep!

Other than Liberty, the team I root for the most is … the San Antonio Spurs.

The best movie I saw over the summer was … The Bourne Ultimatum.

The actress who would play me in a movie is … Sandra Bullock.

My favorite quote is … "Confidence doesn't come out of nowhere. It's a result of something…hours and days and weeks and years of constant work and dedication." – Roger Staubach

What advice would you give to young children? Put God first in everything you do and work hard.

What will it take to reclaim the Big South title? Hard work and teamwork, combined with the ability God has given us.

The most important thing I have learned at Liberty is … the importance of being a team and trusting in God.
