With Liberty's football training camp now under way, LibertyFlames.com continues its annual position preview segments today by looking at the Flames' running backs.
Following the conclusion of the 2016 season, head coach Turner Gill made some offensive coaching staff changes. Today, our position preview visits with Ron Brown, one of the coaches adjusting to a new role as Liberty's running backs coach.
Brown has a wealth of talent at his disposal in 2017 with the return of Carrington Mosley (663 yards, five touchdowns), Todd Macon (620 yards, seven touchdowns) and Frankie Hickson (450 yards, four touchdowns). During the 2016 season, the trio of backs rushed for a combined 1,733 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Macon did suffer an injury during spring workouts and will miss the first portion of the 2017 season. However, junior college transfer Kentory Matthews will add depth to the position and could fill the void. The junior rushed for 630 yards and five touchdowns at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, last season.
On the practice field today, the Flames returns to a full pad practice, following an off day on Sunday. The team spent a majority of the morning workout practice inside Williams Stadium. Tomorrow, LibertyFlames.com will provide its first interview of the week with head coach Turner Gill who will recap last Saturday's scrimmage.
