Liberty Sits in 10th Place Out of 21 Teams

The Liberty men's golf team sits in 10th place out of 21 squads after one round at the Old Dominion Seascape Invitational, played at the 6,131-yard, par-70 Seascape Golf Club, in Kitty Hawk, N.C., on Monday.

Liberty (300) is tenth, 17 strokes behind first-place Wofford (283), through 18 holes. During the first day of competition, the Flames were led by Andrew Nelson (71), as the sophomore is tied for 11th at 1 over. Nathan Schenz-Davis (76) and Preston Dembowiak (76) are at 7 over, while Jay Calvo (77) is at 7 over. Peter Horstman (78) rounds out the Flame five at 8 over.

Following Wofford at the top of the pack are Hartford (284), one stroke back, and Richmond (288), five strokes back.

Neil O'Briain (67) of Wofford, Jimmy Lytle (67) of Elon and Jordan Utley (67) of Richmond are all vying for medalist honors, knotted at 3 under. A.J. Oleksak (69) of Hartford, Tim Courtney (69) of Richmond, Pete Alminas (69) of Winthrop and Garret Medeiros (69) of Wofford are also in the mix at 1 under.

After placing 11th of 18 teams in last year's event, Liberty looks to regain its form from October 2005, when the Flames led the event for most of the tournament before finishing fourth.

The Old Dominion Seascape Invitational concludes with a final round, tomorrow at the 6,131-yard, par-70 Seascape Golf Club.
