2017-18 Men's Golf Schedule
Four of Liberty's five 2017 fall golf tournaments will place the Flames on new courses, as head coach Jeff Thomas announced his schedule earlier today.
The Flames will make two trips to the state of Alabama during the fall, while also visiting North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
For the third year in a row, Liberty will kick off its season at the Rod Myers Invitational at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C., Sept. 16-17. Liberty finished second out of 14 teams at last year's event, thanks to Kieran Vincent claiming individual medalist honors with a program record 15-under par 201 (67-67-67).
One week later, Liberty will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to participate in UAB's Shoal Creek Invitational. The two-day event will be contested at the Shoal Creek Country Club, Sept. 25-26. Liberty has participated in the UAB hosted event in 2013 and 2014.
Liberty will play the first of three events during the month of October at the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollege in College Grove, Tenn. The Middle Tennessee State hosted event will be played Oct. 8-10 at The Grove Club, one of six NCAA Regionals sites, last May.
Later in the month, the Flames will travel to Dallas, Texas, to play in Baylor's Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, Oct. 23-24, at the Royal Oaks Country Club. The Flames will close out the fall with a return trip to Alabama, traveling to Loxley, Ala., for South Alabama's Steelwood Collegiate Invitational at the Steelwood Country Club, Oct. 28-29.
The spring portion of the Flames' 2017-18 schedule will be announced at a later date. The spring slate concludes with the 2018 Big South Men's Golf Championship at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C., April 20-22.
Liberty finished the 2016-17 season ranked No. 49 in the final Golfstat national rankings, spending each week of the season in the top-50 national rankings. The Flames spotlighted the run with a No. 22 ranking on Oct. 22.
Following a second-place finish at the 2017 Big South Men's Golf Championship, the Flames earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Regional. Liberty was the No. 8 seed at the NCAA Austin Regional, which was contested at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 71, 7,355 yards) in Austin, Texas, May 15-17.
