Liberty rising sophomore guard Iva Ilic helped Croatia claim the bronze medal at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship Division B, which wrapped up Sunday in Eilat, Israel.
Croatia won five of its seven games during the nine-day tournament, culminating with Sunday's 60-51 triumph over Belarus in the bronze medal game. As a result, Croatia earned a spot on the podium and promotion to Division A for the 2018 FIBA U20 Women's European Championship.
A native of Koprivnica, Ilic made five appearances during the tournament. Her best showing came in an 83-49 victory over Ireland on July 12, as Ilic contributed three points, five rebounds and a pair of steals. That triumph helped Croatia win Group B with a 4-1 record.
Ilic averaged 7.0 ppg during her first season with the Lady Flames, earning a spot on the Big South All-Freshman team. Her 40 three-pointers led the team and paced all Big South freshmen during the 2016-17 campaign.
Ilic will tip off her sophomore season Nov. 10, when Liberty travels to Old Dominion for a Preseason WNIT first round clash at the Ted Constant Center.
