As summer continues, Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) reporter Nick Pierce caught up with Liberty Volleyball Head Coach Shane Pinder.
Pinder discussed Liberty's spring training along with an update on the summer and a look ahead toward the fall season. Liberty will return a majority of its starters from last year's team, which went 16-13, including 11-5 in Big South play. The Lady Flames finished in a tie for second in the Big South, earning the second seed for the 2016 Big South Volleyball Championship.
Three seniors return, in Anna Willey, Gabrielle Vess and Sirena Vorster. Also, three members of the 2017 Lady Flames (Willey, Vorster, Anna Gragg) earned all-conference honors last season.
The Lady Flames open the season at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va., Aug. 25-26, taking on Villanova, Virginia and Hofstra. Liberty's home schedule is highlighted by the first visit from a Big Ten volleyball team in Vines Center history, as Maryland will play in the Liberty Invitational, Sept. 1-2.
