2017 Baseball Season Recap with Head Coach Scott Jackson

With the Major League Baseball Draft putting a cap on the 2017 Liberty baseball season on Wednesday, LFSN's Nick Pierce was able to catch up with Flames' head coach Scott Jackson for a look back at the year.

In their first season under Jackson, the Flames posted a 32-23 overall record and finished second in the Big South with a 16-8 mark.

Team/Program Accomplishments

  • The Flames won 30 or more games for the 13th straight season.
  • Liberty led the Big South in ERA (4.31), runs scored (386) and runs allowed (276)
  • The Flames finished the season by garnering 341 walks, a program record. Liberty ended the season ranked third in the nation in bases on balls.
  • Liberty posted a 15-7 (.682) road mark, its best since 2010.
  • Has had a player taken in every Major League Baseball Draft since 2000

  • Among conference leaders in hits (65), RBI (45) and slugging percentage (.552)

  • Two-time Big South Player of the Week
  • Led the Big South in RBI during the regular season and completed the year with 55
  • Among conference leaders in hits (68), home runs (10), slugging percentage (.534), on base percentage (.411), walks (39) and total bases (117)

  • Big South All-Conference second team
  • Finished fourth in the Big South with a 2.93 ERA
  • Among the conference leaders in wins (6) and innings pitched (73.2)
