The Liberty Lady Flames scored three goals in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, and never looked back in a 4-1 Big South Conference victory over the Radford Highlanders, Tuesday night in women's soccer action at Liberty Soccer Field.

With the win, Liberty moves to 2-3 in the Big South Conference and 5-9 overall, while Radford drops to 2-2 in conference play and 8-6 overall.

The opening 15 minutes was mainly a midfield battle, with each squad attempting one shot apiece during the stretch.

Over the next three minutes, Liberty pressured the Highlander net with five-consecutive shots, including attempts by Mallory Neff (Jr., MF, Sunbury, Pa.) and Suzanne Edwards (Sr., F, Waxhaw, N.C.) in the 17th minute, both of which Radford keeper Alex Traughber stopped.

In the 20th minute, the Highlanders countered, as a corner kick began a series of shots by the visitors, ending in a save by Liberty netminder Lauren Kamphius (So., Bloomington, Ill.).

The Lady Flames took a 1-0 advantage in the 39th minute. On a corner kick by Neff, Brittany Tyson (Jr., D, Souderton, Pa.) headed the ball to Maria Owen (Fr., F, Mount Jackson, Va.) in front, who tucked the ball inside the near post for her fourth goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, Radford knotted the score at 1-1. SharDavia Bell executed a give-and-go with Justine Dugger to move inside the penalty area. Bell then found the far corner of the net with an open shot for her third marker of the season at 40:45, to send the contest to intermission deadlocked.

Liberty quickly broke the tie, 2:45 into the second half. Emily House (Jr., MF, Lynchburg, Va.) sent a cross into the box, which was headed down by Rachel Hetrick (Sr., F, Grantville, Pa.) onto the foot of Ally Erving (So., F, Anchorage, Alaska). The sophomore blasted a shot into the far, right-hand corner of the net to give the Lady Flames a 2-1 lead. The marker was Erving's second of the season.

The Lady Flames remained on the attack, upping their edge to 3-1, less than two minutes later. Tyson headed a Neff corner kick into the top of the net for her first collegiate goal at 50:05.

Liberty netted its final goal of the night at 64:59. Tyson lofted a pass into the penalty area for midfielder Amy Oberlin (Jr., Ada, Mich.), who headed the ball over the keeper for her fifth goal of the campaign and a 4-1 Lady Flame lead. Neff also recorded her third assist of the contest on the play.
Over the final 25 minutes, the Liberty defense kept Radford off the scoreboard, backed by three saves by Kamphius.

The Lady Flames outshot the Highlanders, 14-10, for the contest, and held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Liberty goalkeeper Kamphius made five saves in the game, while Traughber recorded four stops for the visitors.

The Lady Flames host Coastal Carolina Saturday night at Liberty Soccer Field in a Big South women's soccer contest. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
