Liberty will tip off its 2017-18 women's basketball season in the Preseason WNIT.

For the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2012, Liberty will take part in the 2017 Preseason WNIT, it was announced today.

The 24th annual Preseason WNIT will feature a 16-team field, consisting of CSU Northridge, Drake, George Mason, Houston, Liberty, Louisiana, Louisville, Michigan, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Old Dominion, Oregon, Saint Francis (Pa.), Southeast Missouri State, Texas A&M and Toledo. Eight of the participating teams played in 2017 postseason tournaments.

The November event features a three-game guarantee for all teams. First round matchups and the bracket will be announced later this spring, with all games hosted by participating schools.

Liberty will be making its fifth Preseason WNIT appearance, which is the most among this year's tournament participants. The Lady Flames previously took part in the tournament in 1999, 2003, 2008 and 2012.

Liberty is 3-5 all-time in Preseason WNIT, including consolation round wins over Grambling State and Sacred Heart at the Vines Center in 2012. However, the Lady Flames are seeking their first-ever win in a Preseason WNIT first-round tilt.

Coming off of a 13-17 season, Head Coach Carey Green's Lady Flames will return seven of their top eight scorers in 2017-18. Headlining the returnees is Big South Freshman of the Year Keyen Green (12.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg).
