Sarah Robertson went 2-for-3 with a homer and a career-high five RBI, Saturday at Winthrop.

Behind a five-hit shutout from Julia DiMartino and a five-RBI game by Sarah Robertson, Liberty defeated Winthrop, 8-0, in five innings during game one of a doubleheader, Saturday at Terry Field.

The Big South-leading Lady Flames (33-18, 14-3 Big South) evened the series at 1-1 heading into this afternoon's finale. Liberty has now won 11 games via the eight-run rule this season, one shy of the program record, set in 1997. The Eagles fall to 23-26, 8-9 in conference play.

DiMartino (15-8) tossed her 14th career shutout, and seventh this season, yielding five hits while striking out five and walking two.

Keleigh Romine (4-9) drew the loss, allowing four unearned runs on two hits, with two walks and one strikeout in one inning. Madyson Watson gave up four runs on three hits, striking out two and walking four in four innings of relief.

Both teams recorded five hits, but the Eagles registered three errors compared to two for the Lady Flames. Winthrop left eight runners on base, while Liberty stranded three.

Robertson batted 2-for-3 with a homer and a career-high five RBI. Tori Zavodny went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Zavodny is now tied for fourth in program history with 60 career stolen bases. Jaclyn Amader stole two bases.

Five different Eagles recorded one hit apiece, while Maddie Antone hit a double.

The Lady Flames jumped ahead with a four-run first. Zavodny hit a leadoff double, before Amber Bishop reached on a throwing error. Romine walked Autumn Bishop, loading the bases. Alexia Taylor then bounced one to third baseman Leah Young, whose errant throw home allowed two runs to score. Robertson followed with a two-run single to make it 4-0. With two outs and runners on the corners, Kaitlin McFarland was caught stealing.

Paige Haley drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, and Shayna Covington then reached on an error. DiMartino stranded both runners, with a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.

Watson entered the circle in relief of Romine to start the second inning. She pitched a 1-2-3 inning, her first of three straight scoreless frames.

For the second inning in a row, DiMartino walked the leadoff hitter. A sacrifice sent Young to second, but DiMartino retired the next two batters.

DiMartino worked through trouble in the third, as Covington hit a one-out single and Antone followed with a double. Ashley Westbrooks singled to third, loading the bases. A strikeout and flyout kept Liberty's lead at 4-0 through three innings.

Romine led off the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle. A two-out single to right by Haley put runners on the corners. Covington then grounded to third for the third out.

Liberty tacked on four runs in the fifth inning. Leadoff hitter Zavodny singled and stole second. Watson walked Amber Bishop. A wild pitch moved both runners up. Autumn Bishop then lined an RBI single to right, scoring Zavodny, but Amber Bishop was thrown out at the plate. Robertson blasted a one-out, three-run homer to left center, boosting the lead to 8-0.

The Eagles went in order during the bottom of the fifth, ending the game via the eight-run rule.
