Liberty trimmed the Winthrop lead to one in the top of the seventh, before seeing its rally come up just short, as the Eagles held on for a 4-3 victory, Friday at Terry Field.

Winthrop (23-25) evens its Big South record at 8-8. Liberty (32-18, 13-3) saw its eight-game Big South winning streak come to an end. The Lady Flames lead the Big South standings by a game and a half over second-place Campbell (12-5).

Both teams recorded four hits in the game, while Liberty registered three errors compared to one for the Eagles.

Winthrop's Keleigh Romine (4-8) earned the win, allowing two runs on one hits, striking out two and walking two in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Kiley Majette gave up one unearned run on three hits over 2 2/3 innings of work. She struck out three and walked one.

Julia DiMartino (14-8) drew the loss, yielding four runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out four and walking one in five innings. Chase Cassady pitched one inning, walking three and striking out one.

Winthrop's Leah Young went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored. Maddie Antone and Paige Haley had one hit apiece.

Amber Bishop batted 2-for-4 with her program freshman-record-setting 10th homer of the season, two RBI and one run scored. Autumn Bishop and Jaclyn Amader both recorded one hit.

Amber Bishop launched a one-out solo shot to left center in the top of the first, giving Liberty a quick, 1-0 lead.

The Eagles capitalized on a pair of Liberty errors in the home half of the first, scoring three times. Haley hit a leadoff single before Shayla Covington reached on an error. DiMartino walked Westbrooks, loading the bases with one out. She struck out Morgan Lowers, before a wild pitch scored Haley. Young then hit an RBI single on the infield, with a second run scoring on a throwing error.

Liberty threatened to score in the third. Zavodny was hit by a pitch with one out. She stole second and went to third on a groundout. Robertson grounded to first, ending the rally.

An error and an infield single gave Winthrop two baserunners to start the bottom of the third. However, Ashley Westbrooks lined into a double play, and a fielder's choice brought the inning to a close.

Young boosted Winthrop's lead to 4-1 with an opposite-field, leadoff homer in the home half of the fourth inning.

Romine retired six straight batters, before walking Kayla Harris with one out in the fifth. A wild pitch by reliever Majette sent Harris to second. Majette walked Jasmeen Click, before fanning Tori Zavodny. Amber Bishop singled on the infield, plating Harris to trim the visitors' deficit to 4-2.

Three walks by Liberty reliever Cassady loaded the bases with two outs in the Winthrop sixth. Cassady maintained the two-run advantage, getting Blake Wallert to ground out to first.

Amader led off the seventh with a pinch-hit single to left, going to third when left fielder Madison Templeton let the ball go by. Click then plated Amader with a bunt single. Zavodny reached on a fielder's choice, grounding to short. Amber Bishop then sent a high drive to deep right. Ashley Westbrooks made the catch and fired to second, doubling up Zavodny to end the game.
