Brenna Smith earned her first Big South Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor on Wednesday.
For the first time in her career, Liberty junior Brenna Smith has been named Big South Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Smith placed second overall and first among collegiate entrants in the women's javelin competition at Saturday's Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C. She threw a personal-best 144-11, moving into second place in program history and eighth place on the Big South all-time list.
A native of Haddon Township, N.J., Smith tops the 2017 Big South performance list and currently ranks No. 42 in the East Region. That has her on the bubble to make her first career appearance at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet.
Smith will take this weekend off from competition, but many of her teammates will be in action at the Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Virginia Challenge will take place at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. Meanwhile, the Duke Invitational will be contested at Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium in Durham, N.C.
