Lady Flames Set to Host PC for Weekend Conference Games

Big South-leading Liberty (23-16, 7-2 Big South), currently on a four-game winning streak, welcomes Presbyterian (14-24, 3-6) to Liberty Softball Stadium for a three-game conference series, Friday and Saturday. Presbyterian was Liberty's opponent when Liberty Softball Stadium was dedicated, April 3, 2015.

Liberty is 19-10 all-time against Presbyterian, while the Lady Flames have won 10 out of the last 13 meetings.

Lady Flames at a Glance
The Lady Flames extended their winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep of Hampton, Tuesday. During the last four games, beginning with a pair of wins at Campbell, Liberty has outscored opponents, 35-5. Overall, Liberty ranks 18th in the nation with a .324 batting average.     

Tori Zavodny leads the Big South with a .418 batting average. Autumn Bishop follows at .404, with a team-leading 11 doubles and three triples. Amber Bishop (.386) paces the conference in hits (51) and RBI (38), also hitting eight homers. Jasmeen Click (.360) leads the team with 18 stolen bases. Sarah Robertson (.354) ranks second on the team with 27 RBI, while Alexia Taylor bats .330 and Emily Sweat hits .316.

In the circle, Kenzie Friesen (8-1) leads the Big South with a 2.42 ERA. Julia DiMartino (8-6) has a 2.70 ERA and tossed her second shutout of the season, Tuesday. Chase Cassady (4-7, 4.77 ERA) is tied for the team lead with two shutouts.

Presbyterian (14-24, 3-6 Big South) won two out of three games from Charleston Southern last weekend in its most recent series. Hope Rogers bats .350 while leading the Big South with four triples and ranking fourth with 28 RBI. Rebekah Gross hits .290, while Megan Anderson (.280) and Kelsie Sanchez (.248) are tied for the team lead with four homers. Alex Cook is 4-9, and her 2.86 ERA is tied for fourth in the Big South.

Liberty leads the all-time series against Presbyterian, 19-10, with the Lady Flames winning 10 out of the last 13 meetings. The Lady Flames went 3-1 against the Blue Hose last season, including a 4-0 win to open the 2016 Big South Softball Championship.

Liberty swept PC in a doubleheader, April 9, 2016. The Lady Flames won game one, 7-1, hitting a pair of homers. Liberty then broke a 5-5 tie with a five-run seventh inning, winning game two, 10-5.

The Blue Hose bounced back with a 6-3 win in the regular-season series finale.

Then, Julia DiMartino tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out 12 as Liberty downed PC, 4-0, in their first game at the 2016 Big South Softball Championship.

Alexia Taylor has batted 8-for-23 (.348) with three homers and eight RBI in seven career games against Presbyterian.

Home Dominance
Liberty is 8-3 at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium this season. In home games, Liberty hits .372 as a team, averaging 7.6 runs per game. Tori Zavodny (.516, 11 RBI, 12 runs), Sarah Robertson (.472, 5 2B, 11 RBI) and Amber Bishop (.457, 10 runs) have had the most success at the plate.

The last time Liberty pitchers combined for six straight complete games was March 26-31, 2007, when Sarah Ellis (2), Terra Lowe (2), Sarah Swor (1) and Dana Wheeler all pitched complete games during that span.

PC Connection
Liberty assistant coach Paige Cassady pitched at Presbyterian in 2007 and 2008. As a freshman, Cassady won 16 games with a 2.18 ERA, being named to the All-SAC second team. Following 2008, she transferred to FIU, where she was a team captain in 2010.

A First for Friesen     
Redshirt senior pitcher Kenzie Friesen will be honored with a Senior Night ceremony prior to Friday's game against Presbyterian. She was named Big South Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the first time in her career. Friesen is 8-1 on the season with a Big South-best 2.42 ERA. In her last three starts, she is 3-0 with a 0.73 ERA.

For her career, Friesen has gone 17-14 with a 3.69 ERA and three shutouts. She pitched the first shutout by a Lady Flame in Liberty Softball Stadium history, April 3, 2015 against Presbyterian.

What a Blast!
Amber Bishop hit a game-winning home run in the seventh inning during Sunday's series finale at Campbell. Afterwards, she was named Big South Freshman of the Week on Monday. Bishop, along with her twin sister, Autumn, have both been named Big South Freshman of the Week twice this season.

Amber Bishop hit her team-leading eighth home run on Tuesday. She is one shy of Sammi Shivock's program freshman record of nine homers, set in 2011.

Bishop and Sarah Robertson hit back-to-back homers against Hampton, Tuesday, the first time this season that Lady Flames have hit consecutive homers.

Liberty leads the Big South and ranks 18th in the nation with a .324 team batting average. The Lady Flames also lead the conference in scoring (5.67 runs per game), slugging percentage (.454) and triples per game (0.26).

Tori Zavodny paces the Big South in batting average (.418), while Amber Bishop leads the league in runs scored (32) and hits (51). Deidra See is tied for the lead in sacrifice flies, with three. In the circle, Kenzie Friesen has a conference-best 2.42 ERA.

With its 13-1 win over Hampton on Tuesday, Liberty set a new program record for double-digit scoring games in a single season at 10.

Zavodny Zooming Up the Charts
Tori Zavodny hit her 10th career triple on Tuesday, tying for third place in program history. Zavodny also entered a tie for fourth place in career runs scored (114), walks (64) and sacrifice flies (5) on Tuesday.

She joins Jessica Moore (2005-07) as the only Lady Flames to record double figures in career doubles, triples and home runs.

K Zone
Julia DiMartino, a 2016 Big South All-Conference first team pitcher as a freshman, struck out a season-high 11 batters in a 7-0 shutout of Hampton on Tuesday. For her career, she has averaged 7.44 strikeouts per seven innings. Her shutout was the ninth of her career, tying for eighth in program history.

Chase Cassady posted a season-high 10 strikeouts against NC Central, March 11.

Closing In
Sarah Robertson, with 96 career hits, needs four more hits to become the fifth Liberty player all-time to register 100 hits by the end of her sophomore year. Junior Alexia Taylor, Liberty's active leader with 148 hits, was the fourth Liberty sophomore to reach 100 hits, last year. The previous three were Stacy Radulovich (1996-97), Cheryl Wyrick (2000-01) and Ashley Williams (2005-06).

Three for Me
Amber Bishop's six three-hit games are the most by a Lady Flame since Katie Zavodny had seven three-hit contests as a senior in 2014.

Sarah Robertson and Alexia Taylor have posted three three-hit games apiece this season, while Autumn Bishop has registered two three-hit contests and Tori Zavodny, one.

Tori Zavodny leads the team with seven career three-hit games, followed by Taylor (6), Amber Bishop (6), Jaclyn Amader (5), Robertson (4), Autumn Bishop (2), Rylee Reynolds (2) and Deidra See (1).
