Amber Bishop hit a game-winning homer at Campbell, Sunday.
With Liberty down to its last out in the seventh, Amber Bishop launched a two-run homer, giving Liberty a 4-3 win over Campbell in the series finale, Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The number seven played a prominent role on Sunday. Bishop's homer, coming in inning seven, was her seventh of the season, allowing Liberty to earn its seventh conference win, and Kenzie Friesen to pick up her seventh victory.
Pinch hitter Kayla Harris reached on an error to start the seventh. With two outs, Bishop smashed a line drive over the fence in center, giving Liberty a 4-3 lead. The Camels then went quietly in the home half, as Liberty claimed the series victory.
Liberty (21-16, 7-2 Big South) leads the conference by a half-game over Winthrop after this weekend's action. Campbell is now 20-20, 5-4 in conference play. The Lady Flames have taken the season series from Campbell, 2-1, for three years running.
The Lady Flames scored four runs on eight hits, making three errors. Campbell scored three runs on five hits, committing one error.
Tori Zavodny went 3-for-3 with a double and scored a run, her first three-hit game of the year and seventh of her career. Bishop batted 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored. Kaitlin McFarland hit 1-for-3 with two RBI.
For Campbell, Abby Perryman went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Four additional Camels had one hit apiece.
Friesen (7-1) earned the win for the second game in a row, allowing three unearned runs on five hits, striking out four and walking two in the complete game effort.
Katie Baker (9-7) drew the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Campbell jumped ahead, scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the first. Madison Herring drew a leadoff walk, before Taesha Duboise hit a bunt single. Melissa Tullar reached on an error, with Herring scoring the first run. With two outs, Perryman hit a two-run double to make it 3-0, Camels.
Zavodny led off the second with a double to right. Jaclyn Amader followed with an infield single. After a sac bunt, McFarland singled to center, scoring Zavodny and Amader to cut the Campbell lead to 3-2. Baker got out of the jam with a fielder's choice and a groundout.
The Lady Flames got a leadoff baserunner in the fourth, as Zavodny singled up the middle. However, Amader popped out to short, before Deidra See grounded into a 6-3 double play to end the threat.
Campbell threatened to score in the bottom of the sixth. Megan Mozingo reached second with two outs on a two-base error. Bailey Bjorson then lifted a fly ball into shallow right center. Jasmeen Click made a sliding catch to end the inning and save a run.
Liberty returns home for a six-game homestand, beginning with a doubleheader on Tuesday against Hampton. Game one between the Lady Flames and Lady Pirates is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
