Alexander Hoffsmith's collegiate debut saw him throw the javelin a personal-best 192-2 for second place at the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invitational.
Liberty freshmen Alexander Hoffsmith and Caleb Hart placed second and third, respectively, in the men's javelin on the opening day of the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invitational, Friday afternoon at Aubrey R. Moon Jr. Field.
Hoffsmith made a successful collegiate debut, throwing 192-2 to better his high school personal best by three and a half feet, finishing as the runner-up of the 15-member field.
Classmate Hart followed in third place, thanks to a season-best heave of 188-9.
All in all, it was a very successful day for the Liberty men's javelin crew, which also saw Denzel Pratt, Sam Arter and Zach Davis each threw 198-6 or longer at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
Redshirt freshman Savannah Pidkaminy was the lone Lady Flame to compete in Lynchburg on Friday. She came in eighth in the women's javelin with a top mark of 95-9 on the day.
Up Next After being divided between three different meets this weekend, Liberty's full team will compete as one unit at the VertKlasse Meeting, next Friday and Saturday at Vert Stadium in High Point, N.C.
