Soccer returns to Osborne Stadium as the Liberty women's soccer team will begin its four-game spring schedule this Wednesday against VMI.
Wednesday's game against the Keydets will be one of three games hosted at Osborne Stadium in April with other games including Longwood and Lynchburg College. The Flames will conclude its schedule on April 22nd, when they travel to North Carolina State to take on the Wolf Pack.
2016 was another banner year for the Liberty Lady Flames women's soccer team. Liberty captured its conference-leading sixth Big South title. The Flames return a wealth of talent as five players return that earned seven all-conference honors. Two first team All-Big South honorees return in Gabrielle Farrell and Isabella Habuda. Junior's Jennifer Knoebel and Sami Santos will enter their senior campaign after being named second team All-Conference. Joining Farrell on the All-Freshman team was Sisi Lam. Farrell was also named Big South Freshman of the Year.
This spring will also be the first time new head coach Lang Wedemeyer gets a chance to see his new squad. Wedemeyer comes to Liberty following a highly successful 17-year run as the head women's soccer coach at South Dakota State. During his time at the helm of the Jackrabbits' program, Wedemeyer led South Dakota State to four Summit League championships and trips to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship (2008, 2014, 2015 and 2016). During his 17 seasons at South Dakota State, Wedemeyer posted a 161-123-39 record, including 10 seasons with 10 or more victories. During the Jackrabbits' run of three-straight Summit League titles, South Dakota State has posed a 32-21-9 record the last three years.
