Jasmeen Click went 2-for-3 with a stolen base against Morgan State on Sunday.
Kenzie Friesen tossed a one-hit shutout, as Liberty topped Morgan State, 7-0, on Sunday in the Lady Flames' final game of the Citrus Classic 1 at ESPN Wide World of Sports. Liberty (9-5) went 4-1 at this weekend's invitational, with the team's lone loss coming in 10 innings to No. 3/3 Florida on Saturday. Morgan State falls to 4-6, losing its first four games of the tournament.
Friesen (3-0) pitched her third career shutout, allowing just one hit while walking two and recording a career-high seven strikeouts. She is the first Lady Flame to post a one-hit shutout since Chase Cassady against Norfolk State on March 10, 2016.
Erica Hawkins (0-3) drew the loss, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits. She walked one and struck out one in three innings of work. Kabria Arnold pitched the final three innings, yielding three runs, two earned, on four hits.
The Lady Flames tied a program single-game record with two sacrifice flies, from Amber Bishop and Deidra See. Autumn Bishop batted 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Autumn Bishop hit 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. Jasmeen Click went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Damali Young drew a walk to lead off the game. She stole second and went to third on a groundout, but was left at third when Mikaela Browdy grounded out.
Liberty scored in the top of the first. Autumn Bishop hit a one-out single, and an error on a fielder's choice put runners on the corners. Amber Bishop then lifted a sacrifice fly, plating her sister for a 1-0 lead.
Morgan State got its lone hit of the game with one out in the top of the second when Briana Jones hit a bunt single. The Lady Flames then turned an inning-ending double play.
After a 1-2-3 Morgan State third, Liberty tacked on three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Robertson lined a leadoff double down the left line, and scored from second on a groundout by Autumn Bishop. Amber Bishop doubled, before Emily Sweat and Tori Zavodny hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 4-0 Liberty advantage. Liberty turned a strikeout-caught stealing double play to end the top of the fourth.
Arnold entered the circle in relief of Hawkins to start the fourth inning. Click bunted for a base hit before stealing second. Sarah Robertson sacrificed her to third before Autumn Bishop hit an RBI single to right center.
Click made a diving catch in left-center, robbing Danielle Pitpit of a leadoff single in a three-batter Morgan State fifth.
The Lady Flames added two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Amber Bishop singled to lead off, and scored when Tori Zavodny reached on a throwing error. See sent a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Zavodny with Liberty's seventh run.
Friesen closed out the shutout with a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out the last two batters she faced.
Liberty will next compete in the Wilson/Demarini Classic in Auburn, Ala., Thursday through Saturday. The Lady Flames will open the weekend by taking on second-ranked Auburn on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
