After Liberty's first 19-win season since the 2010-11 campaign and a school record 14 Big South victories, the Flames will enter the Big South Men's Basketball Championship as the number three seed.
Since finishing as one of the top-4 seeds, Liberty will receive a first-round bye and play the number six seed on Thursday, March 2, at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN3. The Flames will face number six seed Radford in a quarterfinals matchup. The semifinals matchups will also be streamed on ESPN3 with the championship game being televised on ESPN.
Liberty swept Radford during the regular season, winning by an average of five points. In the first matchup, Radford came back from being down 25 points at home to force the game into overtime. During the overtime period, Liberty scored all 12 of its points from the free-throw line to come away with the road win, 71-64, on Jan. 14. At the Vines Center, Radford forced another close game as the Flames pulled out a three-point win, 57-54, on Feb. 4.
After being regular season co-champion with UNC Asheville, the Winthrop Eagles will host the tournament as they earned the number one overall seed due to their regular season RPI. The championship game will be hosted at the highest remaining seed left in the tournament.
On Liberty's side of the bracket is the number two seed, UNC Asheville, who awaits the winner of the number seven seed, Campbell, and the 10th seed Presbyterian.
Liberty has the chance to post a 20-win season for the first time since the 2008-09 season, during head coach Ritchie McKay's first stint at Liberty. The Flames have not won a postseason game since the 2012-13 season when they won four straight games to claim the program's third Big South title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
