Sea Best Invitational Live Stats
Following a head-to-head matchup against James Madison last week, Liberty kicks off its full spring tournament schedule at the 2017 Sea Best Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The 15-team field features 10 teams who finished the fall season ranked inside the final Golfstat top 75 team rankings. Liberty is a part of the 10-team group after completing the fall season ranked No. 32 in the country.
Florida headlines the group at No. 2, followed by North Carolina (No. 13), Florida State (No. 27), North Florida (No. 30), Arkansas (No. 31), Liberty (No. 32), Jacksonville (No. 43), Tennessee (No. 60), Lipscomb (No. 65) and East Carolina (No. 75).
The field will once again be tested by Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass (par 71, 6,977 yards). The event has been contested on this course for the last two years, making the switch from the famed TPC Sawgrass – Stadium Course in 2015.
The Flames have participated in this event six out of the last seven years, posting five top-five finishes. Last year, Liberty finished second out of 15 teams, posting a 9-over par 849 (281-288-280).
Liberty finished nine strokes ahead of Arkansas and North Carolina, with both teams carding an 18-over par 858. Florida ran away with the team title, posting a winning score of 14-under par 826.
Gabe Lench and Isaiah Logue paced the way for the Flames with a pair of top-10 finishes. Lench tied for seventh place with a 1-over par 211 (68-72-71), while Logue shared 10th place with a 2-over par 212 (72-69-71).
Lench (71.50) and Logue (71.29) were two of Liberty's four golfers who finished the fall season with a sub-par scoring average. Mickey DeMorat led the group with a 71.00 fall scoring average, while freshman Kieran Vincent followed with a 71.57 scoring average during his rookie fall season.
With four players posting sub-par scoring averages, Liberty completed the fall season with a 283.07 stroke average, shattering the program's previous fall stroke average record of 290.75 set in 2010.
Lench, Logue and Kieran will be three of Liberty's five starting golfers at this week's event. The trio will be joined by Hutson Chandler (74.00) and Payton Taylor (74.25).
The two-day event gets underway with 36 holes of competition on Monday, following by the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday. A shotgun start will begin at 8 a.m. on both days.
