Bevins Named Director of High School Relations

Former All-America kicker Matt Bevins has returned to the football program as Liberty Head Coach Turner Gill has named him their new Director of High School Relations.

Following five years of service in Liberty's compliance office, Bevins now handles many of the aspects that help high school student-athletes make the transition to Liberty's football program.

"In his role as Director of High School Relations, Matt will be a resource to high school coaches and prospective student-athletes," commented Gill. "He is detailed, hardworking and loves Liberty University. I am thrilled that he is a former Liberty football player and played high school football in Virginia."

Bevins will coordinate daily recruiting operational and logistical processes for the Liberty football program. He will also supervise, plan and coordinate official and unofficial visits to campus for potential student-athletes.

The native of Newport News, Va., will coordinate Liberty's Junior Day events, College For a Weekend presentations and hospitality for all guests visiting the Football Operations Center. He will also assist with the operational logistics of the Turner Gill Football Camps.

Bevins will be a liaison between all departments and the football program at Liberty, including compliance, academics, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, procurement, travel, facilities, housing and financial aid.

He will assist Gill and the football staff with matters related to cost of attendance, scholarship tracking and roster management with the compliance department. He will also organize and maintain recruiting brand through print and social media outlets.

Following a successful career on the gridiron for the Flames, Bevins transitioned into Liberty's administrative offices when he joined the compliance staff in the fall of 2012 as a compliance coordinator. He was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Compliance in May 2015.

In his role within the compliance office, Bevins oversaw Liberty's playing and practice sessions. He administered the Jump Forward Compliance Software, while coordinating official and unofficial visits in recruiting.

Bevins monitored practice logs, while also serving as a liaison between student-athletes and agents. He facilitated promotional activities, donation requests, awards and benefits, along with the Student Assistance fund. Bevins administered the annual NCAA coaches' exam in addition to other day-to-day compliance tasks. He also was responsible for Bylaws 13, 16 and 17.

During his playing career at Liberty (2008-11), Bevins served as the Flames' placekicker, helping the Flames to Big South titles in his first three seasons. He graduated as the all-time leading scorer in Liberty and Big South history (309 points). He was named a consensus first team All-America kicker in both 2009 and 2010.

Bevins was also honored for his efforts in the classroom. He was twice named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District teams (2009 and 2011) and the FCS Athletics Director Association Academic All-Star team (2010 and 2011).

Bevins graduated from Liberty in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in sport management in May 2012 and completed his master's degree in sports adminstration in May 2015. Bevins and his wife, Chelsea, currently reside in Lynchburg.
