The Liberty field hockey team garnered its second All-American selection in program history on Wednesday, as senior defender Serena Barr was named to the 2016 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-America second team.

Serena joins her sister, Natalie Barr, as the Lady Flames' other All-American. Natalie was voted to the All-America third team in 2015.

Barr was also the BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year, an All-BIG EAST first team selection and BIG EAST All-Tournament team selection. In its inaugural season in the league, Liberty went 5-2 in BIG EAST Conference regular season play and finished runner-up to UConn in the 2016 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.

Barr's most impressive game during her senior campaign came on Oct. 28 in a 7-0 win over Temple. The senior recorded two goals, two assists and a career-best six points.

Barr was selected, along with her sister Bethany Barr, to compete in the 2016 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game on Nov. 19 at Old Dominion.

The Lurgan, Northern Ireland, native finished her Liberty four-year career in first place all-time in program history in assists (38), fourth in goals (29), and third in points (96), second in shots (211) and fifth in game-winning goals (6).

"Serena is such a well-rounded player and has been the anchor of our defense for the last four seasons. This accomplishment speaks such volumes about her work ethic, drive and determination to become one of the nation's best defenders."
