The Game

After opening the Lynchburg portion of the Indiana Classic with an 84-77 win over UMass Lowell on Monday, the Flames (2-2) will take on Mississippi Valley State (0-4) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Vines Center. The Delta Devils face UMass Lowell on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a neutral-site game at the Vines Center.

MVSU enters the Indiana Classic with an 0-4 record, and will play each of its first 14 games away from its home court this season. Conversely, Liberty opens the season with eight out of its first 11 games at home. The Delta Devils have fallen at Northwestern, West Virginia, Kent State and Michigan State so far.

Matchup Notes
• Liberty meets Mississippi Valley State for the third time. The Flames downed the Delta Devils at the 2009 Chicago Invitational and at the 2010 South Padre Island Invitational.
• This week marks the first visit to the Vines Center by a SWAC men's basketball team, and Liberty's fourth-ever game against a SWAC men's basketball opponent.

Quick Notes
• Liberty made a season-high 14 three-pointers in an 84-77 victory over UMass Lowell on Monday. The Flames have hit 26 three-point field goals combined in two wins this year.
Ryan Kemrite scored a season-high 21 points against UMass Lowell, hitting four threes and a career-high 11 free throws. His 21 points and 11 free throws are both the most by a Flame in a single game this season.
• Caleb Homesley scored a season-high 19 points off the bench versus UMass Lowell. That is the most points scored by a reserve since A.C. Reid had 20 points at Longwood, Feb. 13, 2016.
• Three Flames average double figures in points this season, led by 2016 Preseason All-Big South first team member John Dawson (11.5).
• 2016 Big South Coach of the Year Ritchie McKay is in his fourth year as head coach at Liberty, and second since returning to Lynchburg. In his time at Liberty (2007-09, 2015-present), McKay has posted a 54-49 overall record.

• Liberty is 2-1 all-time against SWAC opponents, including 2-0 versus Mississippi Valley State and 0-1 against Alabama State. The Flames lost to Alabama State, 67-59, on Dec. 22, 1990 at the Youngstown Holiday Christmas Tournament.
• In Coach McKay's first meeting with Mississippi Valley State, Troy DeVries scored 22 points and future NBA All-Star Jeff Granger added 21 points in a 101-68 New Mexico win, Dec. 28, 2004.
