Final VCU Shootout Results
The Liberty men's golf team finished in last place out of 15 squads in the two-day/54-hole VCU Shootout, at the 6,955-yard, par-72 Hermitage Country Club, in Manakin-Sabot, Va., which wrapped up on Tuesday. The Flames (310-291-296 – 897) finished 15th, 13 shots behind 14th place South Florida. Jay Calvo (74-71-74 – 219) led the Liberty, finishing tied for 34th at 3-over par. Nathan Schenz-Davis (78-73-71 – 222) shot a team-low 71 in the third round, finishing at 5-over par. Jacob Singleton (78-73-77 – 228) finished at 12-over par, while Preston Dembowiak (80-74-76 – 230) finished at 14-over par. Rounding out the Flame five was Parker McKoy (83-74-75 – 232), who finished 16-over par. After entering the final day knotted for the lead, Penn State distanced itself from Wisconsin to capture the tournament crown at 19-under par (283-279-283 – 845). The Badgers finished three shots back at 16-under (284-279-286 – 848). Chattanooga finished in the same spot it started the final round at, in third place and four shots behind the champion. Wake Forest (289-286-274 – 849) shared a piece of third place with Chattanooga, courtesy of its round-low score of 274. Kevin Foley (65-68-68 – 201) of Penn State held on to his day one lead to capture medalist honors, five strokes ahead of Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge (68-70-69 – 206), who entered the round in third place. Rounding out the top three was Derek Rende (67-72-69 – 208), also of Chattanooga, who finished at 8-under par and seven strokes behind the medalist. The Flames hit the links again when they host the Frank Landrey Invitational at the Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va., Oct. 15-16.
