Following a third-place finish at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, Liberty's Mickey DeMorat has been named this week's Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.
The junior carded a four-under par 140 (71-69) on the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C., last Friday. The event was shortened to 36 holes after Hurricane Matthew washed out the tournament's final round.
DeMorat finished the event with seven birdies, ranking 12th in the 81-man field. He also carded 26 pars and limited his damage to three bogeys during two rounds of play.
The Merritt Island, Fla., native has posted three sub-70 rounds during his last five rounds of competition. He has posted three top-10 finishes in a trio of events this fall.
DeMorat leads the Flames with a 70.63 season stroke average. He ranks No. 75 in the country in the first Golfstat individual rankings of the year, the highest ranking of any Big South golfer this season.
This is the second Big South weekly honor of DeMorat's career. He was also named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week on Feb. 25, 2016, following a third-place showing at the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
The Flames return to the golf course in 10 days when they participate in the Quail Valley Intercollegiate. McNeese State will host the 54-hole event on Oct. 24 and 25 at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
