Liberty wrapped up its August Training Camp schedule on Saturday night by hosting its fifth annual Flames Fan Fest event at Williams Stadium.
The evening workout was Liberty's last full practice of preseason training camp. The team will return to Williams Stadium for its annual photo day on Sunday, followed by a 30-minute special teams practice tomorrow night.
After opening with some special teams drills, Liberty's first team offensive and defensive units took to the field to showcase their skills before the gathered Flames Nation crowd.
Liberty's offense shined early and often during the scrimmage, resulting in touchdowns on the first two plays of the evening. Junior quarterback Stephon Masha got things started, hitting Damian King toward the back of the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown strike.
Following a field goal by freshman kicker Alex Probert, fellow freshman Stephen Calvert took the field. The rookie hit Marquis Fitzgerald in stride on a 20-yard scoring route. In total, Calvert had four touchdown passes on the evening, including a second scoring strike to Fitzgerald.
Liberty's red-clad defenders also had their moments under the lights. Defensive linemen JaRon Greene, Erwin Dessources and Dia'Vante Brown each had a sack, while cornerback T.J. Tillery recorded an interception.
After the scrimmage was over, Liberty's coaches and players made themselves available for photos and autographs in the Williams Stadium concourse, completing the evening's festive atmosphere.
After the special teams workout tomorrow night, Liberty will not return to the practice field until Tuesday afternoon. Liberty's players will have Monday off from practice, allowing them to focus on their academic schedule on the university's first day of classes.
