Liberty led all Big South schools with 239 student-athletes being named to the 2015-16 Big South Presidential Honor Roll, which was released by the conference office earlier today.

For the second year in a row, the Big South Conference had over 50 percent of its total student-athletes named the prestigious listing (55.02 percent/1,903 honorees out of 3,459 total student-athletes).

To be named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently completed academic year.

Liberty also led the Big South listing with 23 student-athletes who maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) during the 2015-16 school year. In total, 138 Big South student-athletes achieved a 4.0 GPA mark, last academic year.

A total of 10 Big South schools placed more than 50 percent of their student-athletes on the 2015-16 Big South Presidential Honor Roll. High Point led the league with 74.37 percent of its student-athletes earning the distinction (177 total selections). Liberty had 52.99 percent of its student-athletes named to the Big South listing.

Liberty's men's track & field/cross country team (27 honorees) and women's tennis (nine honorees) program had the highest numbers of selections in the league in their specific sport.

Liberty tied with High Point and UNC Asheville in the women's basketball listing with each team placing 12 student-athletes on this year's Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

"The Big South Conference has always taken a lot of pride in the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes," said Big South Conference Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander. "To have more than half of all student-athletes make the Presidential Honor Roll for the second consecutive year is a reflection of the outstanding individuals in the conference and their priorities, as well as our athletic departments' commitment to providing support and resources to academic services. We are all extremely proud of the achievements of these fine young men and women."
