Liberty freshman Michael Todd placed 10th in the men's 800 prelims at the 2016 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, failing to qualify for Saturday's final. His race took place on a steamy opening day of competition, Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Todd clocked a time of 1:52.82, placing third in the first of three preliminary heats. He finished 10th overall, less than two seconds behind the last qualifier to the final, Christopher Trotter (1:51.08).
Todd closes out a successful freshman year which saw him earn the Big South Men's Freshman of the Year award indoors. The Alaska native was the Flames' first-ever freshman to win the Big South men's indoor 800 championship, doing so in a meet-record time of 1:52.43.
Fellow Liberty freshman Kylie Polsgrove will begin competing in the heptathlon Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Eastern with the 100-meter hurdles.
