(L-R) Julia DiMartino and Jaclyn Amader have been named to the VaSID All-State University Division Softball Team.
Liberty freshman outfielder Jaclyn Amader and freshman pitcher Julia DiMartino have been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Softball Team. Amader was voted to the first team, while DiMartino earned second-team mention.
This is the third year in a row that Liberty has placed two players on the VaSID All-State team. Amader is the third freshman in program history to be named first team All-State, and first since Cheryl Wyrick in 2000. DiMartino is the first freshman pitcher in team history to be voted to an All-State team.
Earlier this spring, DiMartino was named to the Big South All-Conference first team, while Amader earned second team all-conference honors. Both players made an appearance on the All-Freshman Team.
A native of Rocklin, Calif., Amader made an immediate impact in the Lady Flames' lineup. She led the team in batting average (.315), slugging percentage (.475) and total bases (77), while tying for the team lead with 12 doubles. Amader finished the season tied for second on the team with nine stolen bases and 51 hits. She posted 14 multiple-hit games and a team-high five three-hit contests. Her five three-hit games were the most by a Liberty freshman since Ashley Williams' six in 2005.
Hailing from Brockport, N.Y., DiMartino turned in a standout freshman season in the circle. She set new Liberty freshman records with 17 wins (17-12), seven shutouts and 187 strikeouts, while also tossing two no-hitters. Her two no-hitters, against Stetson and Gardner-Webb, tied a single-season program record. She was named Big South Pitcher of the Week each of the last two weeks of the regular season. Her seven shutouts tied her for 20th in NCAA Division I, and second among all Division I freshmen.
No. 7/8 James Madison received three major awards after a 50-6 season that saw the Dukes win the NCAA Harrisonburg Regional and host an NCAA Super Regional. Dukes senior Jailyn Ford, three-time NFCA All-American and two-time VaSID Pitcher of the Year, earned her second VaSID Player of the Year in a row. James Madison sophomore Megan Good, a two-time All-America selection, was voted VaSID Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year. JMU's head coach Mickey Dean was named VaSID Coach of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Virginia Tech catcher Lauren Duff, the 2016 ACC Freshman of the Year, was voted VaSID Rookie of the Year.
