2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Liberty seniors Jeremie Bourget and David Scouten have both been voted to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-District III team for men's track & field and cross country, it was announced today.

The team, organized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), annually recognizes the top student-athletes in the country.

With their selection to the all-district team, Bourget and Scouten are now eligible for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ® team, which will be announced June 24. Scouten was named to the all-district squad for the second consecutive season.

Bourget and Scouten each graduated with a 3.95 GPA on May 14. Bourget completed a bachelor's degree in health promotion, while Scouten was a double major in criminal justice and accounting.

Bourget, a native of Timmins, Ontario, Canada, was named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year during a successful senior cross country season. He helped Liberty win the Pre-Nationals black race title with a 20th-place finish. Bourget then came in third at the Big South Cross Country Championship and a team-best 30th at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship.

Bourget was the men's 5K runner-up at the 2016 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship, earning the fifth and final All-Big South honor of his career. The previous day, he had placed fourth in the men's 3K final. Bourget went on to finish sixth in the men's 10K at the 2016 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship in his last meet as a Flame.

Scouten was Liberty's male nominee for the Big South Conference's George A. Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence. The Brooklyn, Mich., native was additionally named to the Big South All-Academic team for men's indoor track & field, earning the third All-Academic nod of his career.

Scouten placed second in three different Big South event finals as a senior, including the indoor weight throw and the outdoor discus and hammer, finishing his career as a 13-time All-Big South performer. Scouten, who also came in sixth in the IC4A men's weight throw competition, ranks among Liberty's career top 10 in five events. These include the indoor weight throw (sixth, 62-9.5), outdoor hammer (seventh, 191-5), indoor shot put (eighth, 53-10.5), outdoor shot put (ninth, 52-10.75) and outdoor discus (ninth, 168-0).
